KEY LARGO, Florida Keys — A host of elite Nashville songwriters are to liven up three Key Largo stages Friday and Saturday nights, Oct. 19 and 20, during the inaugural Downtown Key Largo Songfest.
The free-admission weekend festival features an eclectic range of genres, including jazz, blues, rock and roll, country and contemporary pop. As well as the tunes, the event gives music lovers an opportunity to enjoy the stories behind yesterday’s favorites and today’s popular hits.
Among the entertainers are some of America’s leading lyricists including Nashville Hall of Fame songwriter Pat Alger and Marty Dodson, who co-wrote Billy Currington’s number-one hit single “Must Be Doing Something Right.” Other featured local and national acts include Bud Tower, Mark Stephen Jones, Ralph Murphy, Billy Livesay and more.
Many of the featured songwriters have written hits for stars such as Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Toby Keith, Lyle Lovett, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Foghat, among others.
Venues simultaneously featuring live music include those along what has become known locally as Key Largo’s Happy Hour Trail: Bayside Grille at mile marker 99.5, Sharkey’s Pub & Galley Restaurant at 522 Caribbean Drive and the Pilot House Restaurant & Marina at 13 Seagate Blvd. oceanside.
Island Time Shuttle is to provide complimentary transportation between the three venues during the event.
The event is co-sponsored by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, or ASCAP, in partnership with the Key Largo Downtown Association. The association’s mission is to foster a vibrant commercial and cultural district highlighting the island’s eclectic mix of retail shops, restaurants, entertainment and activities while preserving its historic architecture.
